Sustainability is central to the vision for Lowarth Treveben.

The proposals aim to create a well-planned community that supports people, nature and long term environmental performance.

The garden village is designed around everyday needs to reduce reliance on the car and support healthier lifestyles, establishing a 20-minute neighbourhood for rural Cornwall:

  • Garden villages ethos, with homes located close to schools, local services, jobs and green spaces
  • A range of homes to meet local housing needs
  • Walkable and cycle friendly streets with strong public transport connections
  • Low carbon homes prioritising energy efficiency, building orientation and renewable technologies

The landscape strategy respects Cornwall’s character while enhancing the natural environment. The proposals provide:

  • Linear Green Infrastructure

  • Principal Development Area
  • Dark Corridors
  • Primary Road Enhancement
  • Primary Green Space
  • Secondary Pocket Green Space
  • Translocated Hedge banks
  • Monument Park – Protection of and access to the scheduled ancient monument on site.
  • Dormouse Habitat
  • Equipped Play
  • Formal Recreations
  • Stream corridor
  • Village Green
  • Community allotments, orchards, edible landscapes and rewilding areas to support local food and nature
  • Tree planting to meet the council’s 15% tree canopy cover requirements

What we’ve heard so far

During the previous consultation, residents highlighted the sustainability priorities that matter most:

  • Enhanced habitats to support wildlife and biodiversity
  • Energy-efficient, low-carbon homes and modern construction methods
  • Improved walking and cycling connections

Lowarth Treveben has been designed to respond directly to these priorities, creating a community that is environmentally responsible, connected and resilient for the future.
